The last real, honest to goodness plastic-wrapped CD we released was "Days of Bright Commotion" by Bacchus Joint.  That was 2010.  Two years and many a late night recording session later, we have a very impressive album from Sweeney Schragg ( Guitar and Vocals) and company (Bill Bosch on Bass, Art Alm tearing up piano and accordian, and Chris Haskett  laying it down on the drums).  The album is twelve original songs with styles consisting of traditional jazz to R&B, ska, zydeco, and the funkiest New Orleans funks. Recorded entirely in-house at the Art Boutiki, the sound is spacious and live; quite simply because that is how the entire album was recorded.  Schragg's desire for authenticity and (to a certain extent) tradition has lead to an excellent product that is unique among today's overproduced norm.

The album is available at The Art Boutiki and from Amazon.com for the time being, but will be available on itunes and to order directly from Slab Yard Sound very soon.

Blue's Guitar and Metal Guitar find Online Home

11/9/2014

Music is our life here at Slabyard, so we are happy to see that it is alive and well within this new generation. A new site launched and it's owners reached out to us for some love. They said they were big fans and follow our blog. We appreciated this so decided to throw some attention their way. The new blog is called Shred Kick and they are cool peoples.
The site offers reviews of online guitar lesson sites, as well as their own live guitar lessons in New York City. They told us they recently branched out to include bass guitar lessons with new instructors. Although their main focus is currently on finding and reviewing the best online and live guitar lessons for beginner and intermediate players, they are also going after the face-to-face instruction, recently setting up a studio in Staten Island.

World Returns to Laughter  takes on a predominantly electronic sound perfectly fitting it's providential story of inevitable collapse.  This is how the survivors would be telling the story hundreds of years from now using primitive technology.  There is an ambient beauty interspersed by utter chaos to invoke your fight or flight instincts, making this a true masterpiece in subliminal messaging.

A musical storyteller must give the full experience not just through lyrics, but total immersion in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic nightmare.  World Returns to Laughter certainly succeeds in forced immersion utilizing an hour and fourteen minute journey to the end of human civilization as we know it.  Leave your ego at the door: your new one will be issued at the beginning of the album, and you will not be the same when it ends.

Last post was October... but things actually do happen around here.  This is a really nice track from Cerebrin featuring guest vocalists Walt Rogers (verses) and Christine Ho (Choruses).  "Hindsight Blues" also debuts Cerebrin on upright bass and the harmonic mastery of Messy Tables on the vibraphone.  Check out this great track free of charge!

We now present more pedal thickened rainbow molasses, that I hesitate to say, squashes competition at recreating the sound of the 90's.  Yes, even in today's perverse electronic year of our lord 2011, there are young people in California creating analog garage soundscapes reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, The Smashing Pumpkins, and many more familiar drug addled day trips leading to glorious evaporation in an atmosphere composed mostly of nitrogen and big muffs.  Echolalia is the first release from up and coming band Pauser and is an incredibly noisy and emotional tribute to Clay Cobb, a fallen band mate whose memory lives on in this album with every distorted open fifth and blood curdling whine.  This is a free download available here at Slab Yard and is recommended to fans of the outrageously thick and unintelligible 90's sound of guitars and pure, teenage fervor.
